{"id":5585,"date":"2021-05-28T13:35:56","date_gmt":"2021-05-28T13:35:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.myamplelife.com\/wp\/?p=5585"},"modified":"2021-05-28T14:30:18","modified_gmt":"2021-05-28T14:30:18","slug":"quantum-serenity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.myamplelife.com\/wp\/2021\/05\/quantum-serenity\/","title":{"rendered":"Quantum Serenity"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I have modified <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Reinhold_Niebuhr\"><strong>Reinhold Neibuhr\u2019s<\/strong> <\/a>original prayer to combat the amount of <em>quantum rubbish<\/em> that now vastly exceeds the hype of AI and ML:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-vivid-purple-color has-text-color\">&nbsp;Preskill: <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Quantum_supremacy\">Quantum Supremacy<\/a> = Tayur: Quantum Serenity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I now plan to include this prayer in my quantum-related presentations \u2013 two upcoming ones are on June 4<sup>th<\/sup>and June 7<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Yes, in my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myamplelife.com\/wp\/2021\/04\/nsf-engineering-distinguished-lecture\/\">NSF Engineering Distinguished Lecture<\/a>. &#x1f60f;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A very exciting update is that both winners of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myamplelife.com\/wp\/2021\/02\/2020-tayur-prize\/\">2020 Tayur Prize <\/a>will be presenting at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ieee-sum.org\">IEEE Summer Topicals Conference<\/a> (virtual, July 19-21, 2021) of the <em>IEEE Photonics Society<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another exciting update is that our <a href=\"https:\/\/bernalde.github.io\/QuIP\/\"><em>Quantum Integer Programming (QuIP) Course 47-779<\/em>,<\/a> offered by Tepper School of Business, will be cross listed in <strong>CMU\u2019s ECE Department<\/strong> for Fall 2021, and expanded to include topics on <em>Quantum Machine Learning<\/em>, with <strong>Elias<\/strong> joining me as a co-instructor. You can see see the 2020 lecture notes as a <a href=\"https:\/\/fliphtml5.com\/homepage\/vjqxb\">wonderful flip-book<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you missed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pqi.org\/events\/panel-discussion-challenges-and-unique-industry-opportunities-quantum-machine-learning\">VC-panel I moderated<\/a> earlier this month (organized by <strong>CMU\u2019s Mechanical Engineering Department<\/strong>, as part of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.cmu.edu\/news-events\/events\/2021\/06\/3-ml-web-series.html\">Scientific Machine Learning<\/a><\/em> series, led by <strong>Venkat<\/strong> and <strong>Dilip<\/strong>), we are planning to make the edited transcript available soon.
