A Suite with a View

Of course, I am riffing

A Room with a View is a 1985 British romance film directed by James Ivory and produced by Ismail Merchant. It was written by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, who adapted E. M. Forster‘s 1908 novel A Room with a View. At the 59th Academy Awards it was nominated for eight Academy Awards (including Best Picture) and won three: Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design. It had box office receipts of $21 million (on a budget of $3 million).

I was in Washington DC, staying at Hotel Washington – yes, the one with the rooftop bar Vue that overlooks the White House (and, yes, the flag was flying half-staff, per President Trump’s order)  – in a Premium Monument View suite, attending and participating in an exceptionally well curated (and well executed) intimate (about 150 attendees) Health AI+ 2025 conference (by the same folks that bring us the mega- expo CES in Las Vegas every year) at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center.

I had an opportunity to catch up with Tinglong Dai, who happened to be around for another event with Washington Post, the day before the conference, and he mentioned that the December 8th conference that Maxime Cohen and he are organizing on AI and Supply Chains – see The Importance of Being Skeptical – will likely be in the same conference room! Of course, I continued my tradition of having dinner (with Chili infused Gin cocktail) at Bombay Club.

What was our panel on? Quantum! If you have not seen it (WSJ September 10, 2025):

Beyond wonderfully moderated panels with influential and knowledgeable panelists, including Chris Klomp, there was ample opportunity to mingle and network with a wide variety of folks throughout the day, and, in a well attended and bustling reception (at Dirty Habit) after the conference. Here was the agenda (kudos to Rene Quashie and the CTA team):
